Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning one. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn whatever he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental feedback from other people kill his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
He began competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is quite humble about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
