Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental comments from others kill his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
