Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve closing poker table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a massive pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest bettors in the world. While playing internet poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all in. I know Hansen is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the min takes most of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the best players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total dollar value. I think tv can alter our view of the real world every now and then. The best poker players in the world might just be guys you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be found wagering on net poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in high stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in cash rounds?
