Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn everything he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse comments from others kill his goal of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He began playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
