• NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse comments from other people kill his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an undying passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
